The pilot project of Landslide Prevention & Stabilization of Slopes in the most earthquake affected district of Nepal at former Sundrawati VDC now Kalinchowk Rural Municipality ward no. 9 with the support of UN/FAO and DSCWM is at final stage. In this project the role of the HURADEC was to provide the social mobilization service to the community. There were four component in this project; Landslide treatment, community soil conservation, road slope stabilization and social mobilization.
Under the Landslide treatment activity, the early warning system is installed which is the major attraction of the project.
On 4th June 2018, Dr. Thomas Hoffer, Senior Forest Officer of the UN/FAO from Bangkok office visited the field to monitor the activities along with lead consultant Mr. Rup Narayan Yadav, Bio-engineering consultant Mr. Surya Khanal and Rehabilitation supervisor Mr. Subas Chandra Dahal.
Next day, HURADEC Nepal presented the summary of the project activities at hotel Kuber Charikot. In the meeting chairperson of HURADEC Mr. Hom Pathak, Treasurer Mr. Jibas Khadka, Team Leader Mr. Raju BK Ghatani and chief administrator Mr. Sher Bahadur Bhujel were present. From the government side, Mr. Jeevan Shrestha and Mr. Bibek Tamang from DSCO Dolakha attended the meeting.
Chairperson Mr. Hom Pathak has said that "this is the successful project and we should replicate it to all the landslide affected area in the district". Mr. Thomas said that he is happy working with the HURADEC and also interested for working in this type of projects in Dolakha with the coordination of HURADEC.
At that moment, project coordinator Mr. Bidya Raj Shiwakoti has presented the achievement of the project and a short video of the project activities.
